System requirements

Media Sync Tool runs on macOS 26 or later and works alongside Final Cut Pro, both as a standalone app and as a Final Cut Pro share extension. Ingest your media in Final Cut Pro, export an FCPXML, and process it in Media Sync Tool.

Final Cut Pro extension

The Final Cut Pro extension requires macOS 26 or later and Final Cut Pro 10.6 or later. It allows you to sync and log media without ever leaving Final Cut Pro. To learn how to install and use it, see Final Cut Pro extension.

Supported FCPXML versions

Media Sync Tool reads FCPXML version 1.7 up to (but not including) 2.0 — the range produced by current Final Cut Pro releases — including the Final Cut Pro XML Bundle format introduced in Final Cut Pro 10.6. A schema older than 1.7, or FCPXML 2.0 or newer, can’t be loaded; opening one shows an “Unsupported FCPXML Version” message suggesting you re-export the FCPXML from Final Cut Pro.

Tip: If you’re unsure which version a file uses, just export a fresh FCPXML from your current Final Cut Pro. To learn more about exporting, see the Final Cut Pro User Guide.
