Using the metadata view

To send media from Final Cut Pro to Media Sync Tool, you either export an FCPXML file or drag clips directly into the app. Each method needs the Media Sync Tool metadata view selected, but in a different place.

Export FCPXML from Final Cut Pro

Exporting an FCPXML file is the most reliable way to hand off a large selection or an entire library.

  1. In the Final Cut Pro browser, select the events, individual clips, or the whole library you want to sync.
  2. Choose File > Export XML.
  3. In the window that appears, choose the Media Sync Tool metadata view from the Metadata View pop-up menu.
  4. Click Save.

Drag and drop media from Final Cut Pro

When you drag clips straight into the app, Final Cut Pro still writes the metadata into an FCPXML behind the scenes—but you choose the metadata view in the Inspector instead of the Export XML window.

  1. In the Final Cut Pro browser, select the events, individual clips, or the whole library you want to sync.
  2. Open the Inspector and choose the Info pane.
  3. At the bottom of the Info pane, choose the Media Sync Tool metadata view.
  4. Drag the selected media into the Media Sync Tool window.

Set the metadata view at the bottom of the Info inspector, then drag clips into Media Sync Tool.

Tip: Final Cut Pro remembers the selected metadata view, so you only need to choose it once—not every time you drag media.
